It has been more than decades since the internet became widespread. The number of internet users has grown exponentially every year- the internet became an integral part of our lives. In this situation, what happens to our SNS when we die?
A few days ago, I stumbled upon a very intriguing article about digital inheritance. Digital inheritance means any kinds of personal digital assets that a person creates online. When it comes to inheritance, we usually get help from the laws of inheritance, but we still don't have established property rights by law or any sort regarding digital inheritance.
I took a quick look at several comments and some people said that it would be good if we have a check box (whether or not we want our information to be deleted after we die) when we sign up on a certain site. Others claimed that some of the information be memorialized in order to keep the memories of a deceased and to keep a deceased remembered.
Having read this article, I thought about what would happen to my digital property after I die. Do I want my information to remain online? Am I going to pass my information on to my family? or do I want it to be deleted permanently?
Maybe in the near future, we may have a digital cemetery. Can you imagine a place, like an internet cafe, that is full of computers, and there you can just type in the name of your deceased beloved and the computer shows all the information of him/her on the screen, and people weep behind the computer screens?
What do you think? What do you want to do with your facebook, twitter, blog, or all the accounts you've made, after you die?
