PatientsLikeMe

Hi everyone,

PatientsLikeMe is an online patient network where patients with a similar illness can share experiences, give & get support, track their health, compare treatments/symptoms and much more. It was co-founded by a family member who's brother was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), a disease in which my research focuses.  It's definitely a great website to check out if you are interested in social media, patient advocacy, caregiving, and simply the relationship with social media and disease. I think online culture of websites like PatientsLikeMe are a fascinating glimpse to how people understand disease and develop a illness narratives in technology. When we begin working on Mini Ethnography 2 about "Virtual Worlds" this may be a good fieldwork site for some of us. I know that I will be diving into their website a bit more about the PatientsLikeMe world and learning about the patient centered research projects they are involved in. Check out the website here:
