Instagram as a platform for political attack ads

I heard this piece on NPR the other morning and wanted to find the print article to share with you all. It basically goes into how Presidential candidates for this election are posting attack ads on Instagram, which hasn't been seen before on this platform in particular. I personally find the idea of negative ads on Instagram a bit jarring and out of place, so I was very intrigued to hear further commentary from the reporters and experts. They later discuss how social media outlets gradually change over time from becoming based on personal connections to merely providing a public forum to for debate. The exact quote that really caught my attention was from Kerric Harvey, a professor at George Washington University: "All these models have moved away form a really personalized form of social media to social media as a public vehicle for public discussion..." I had never really thought of this point before and I'm not honestly sure I have enough experience with social media sites to agree or disagree, but it certainly seemed like a plausible theory and something worth further thought. The link to the full article is below if you're interested!
