Technology bringing us closer or not?

I ran across the following link to Twitter founder Jack Dorsey's keynote talk at this year's TechCrunch Disrupt conference on my Facebook newsfeed earlier today. He spends some time describing how he never intended to be an entrepreneur and goes on about the role of a founder in companies. What I found especially interesting though, was one of his ending comments, "What we really need to do here is use technology to remind people that we are human, that civilization is meant to connect people." Well yes, this is a statement coming from the guy who is one of the main players at a social network start-up such as Twitter, but I found the statement fitting in contrast to our readings about how separate science and laboratories are from regular people. It also called to mind the argument that the technological developments of the past few years are making people more disconnected. I was wondering what people's stance is on this?
