Personal Safety App

Currently there’s been a lot of talk about sexual assault on college campuses. Students at University of Michigan have created this app called Companion so that users can have a family member or friend virtually walk home with them and make sure they get home safely. The benefit to this app as compared to just talking on the phone with someone when you walk home is that if the user strays off their path, falls, starts running, etc. and does not respond to a text within 15 seconds, the app starts emitting loud noises to scare attackers off and gives the user the option to call 911. In addition, it alerts the user’s companion and gives them the option to call the police and tell them your location. Plus, if the user is on a college campus, the app will also alert the campus police. I think this app is a great idea and I love that technology is being used to create apps like this.
