Okay, I know this is probably slightly irrelevant, but something happened on my social media news feed a while ago that was incredibly bizarre. Martin Shkreli basically hijacked UC Berkeley's meme Facebook group, turning it into this bizarre twilight zone, where the line between celebrity worshipping and irony was incredibly thin. I would paste some of the memes, but they seem to have been completely wiped out, which goes to show the kind of ways in which social media distorts memory, everyone's already moved on to greater and more engaging topics.
It was interesting, though, how someone almost universally hated managed to transcend that in a specific instance for a small moment. I remembered tuning into a live feed of him applying to UCB live. Honestly, I still have no idea what happened.

There are some news articles on this, any theories to unpack this event? I think dissecting the specifics of social media and tech would be interesting.
