Nothing is Safe Online

I saw this Buzzfeed article the other day and was absolutely appalled. A Sikh man was photoshopped to be one of the Paris attackers. Eventually some social media users started being skeptical of the photo and doubted that it was actually one of the Paris attackers. Finally, the man in the photo tweeted the original selfie, which was a harmless photo of him in a bathroom with his iPad. I think it is horrifying that someone took it upon themselves to photoshop one man’s photo to give everyone a face for the Paris attackers. After seeing this, I felt a similar terror as when we watched the movie about the terms and agreements in class. Everything seems so vulnerable online because anyone, companies or individuals, could decide to use your data or photos however they see fit.
