Our class visited the National Shrine of Divine Mercy together, a place I found simple and decadent at the same time, as far as SecondLife worlds go. Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in Stockbridge, MA. This reproduction in Second Life is an outreach ministry allowing residents to experience the shrine, daily readings from Saint Faustina's diary and seasonal choir music from St. Helena's Family Choir.
Inside the church, an image for which I could not find on the internet, contained an interactive feature in the basement that struck me as interesting. It contained a rectangular TV-screen looking image of Jesus. When scrolling over it, it was possible to submit to the owner/creator of this world daily prayers relevant to the day and to specific prayers centered around Divine Mercy. In addition, daily prayers could be looked at on a square image to the left of this rectangle. Here, you can see what other people decided to post as prayers. Most interestingly, every weekday at 3pm there is a virtual prayer service connecting to the live prayer services that take place at the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Stockbridge, MA. This is a fascinating way, in my opinion, to get your daily dose of spirituality without going to an established place of worship but instead, sitting in front of your computer and participating virtually through the prayer service. It is a novel way, for me at least, to observe religious ceremonies - unique and seemingly natural in our ever-expanding virtual and physically disconnected world.
